Orsett Heath Academy

Student Leadership

Orsett Heath Academy will appoint a variety of Student Leadership positions every year.

The students in these groups will undertake various roles and responsibilities around the school, both during the school day and at extra-curricular events. Every Student Leadership group is designed to extend student experiences, provide them with opportunities to enhance their skills, and give students a voice in whole school improvement.

Take a look at the opportunities available:

Head Students: Following a rigorous selection process, two year 11 students are selected to be representatives of the school. They also serve as a good role model for students, helping to ensure that the school is a safe and secure place, and share students' ideas with the school's leadership. They may also be expected to lead fellow prefects and deputy head students in their duties.

Deputy Head Students: These students aim to support the Head Students in their duties and will provide additional resource however is needed.

Student Prefects: These pupils are selected because they demonstrate positive behaviours and act as role models for all years. They support the school at events (such as parents evening, helping out with productions or extra-curricular events) and contribute to the effective running of the school, as directed by staff members.

House Captains: House Captains maintain a high level of commitment throughout the year to promote school events such as house competitions and sports days by encouraging and motivating their team. They will also assist their House Leaders in any required duties. House captains have a good attitude, work hard, are resilient and encourage positive behaviour across the school.

Sports Captains: The role of the sports captain is to lead, support, inspire and represent the school in sport whilst demonstrating all the school values. The sports captains will act as role models for the whole school, as well as their own tutor groups.

Form Captains: The role of the form captain is to take an active role within the school community, supporting the Form Tutor during Form Time and helping to organise class events. They should be understanding and able to listen to the needs of those in their groups.

Student Council: The Student Council’s main role is as the students' representative body. It creates and directs whole school initiatives, as well as helping to share students' ideas, interests or concerns. The student council functions with the overall intention of promoting the development of the school and the welfare of its students.

Wellbeing Team: This team helps to promote positive mental health practices in our school, by encouraging understanding of mental health and sharing strategies for wellbeing. They provide support and guidance to pupils and create an atmosphere of positivity and inclusivity within the school.

Anti-Bullying Ambassadors: Our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors remind all pupils that bullying behaviour is not acceptable and does not form part of everyday life at school. They are trained to support others and are upstanders against bullying behaviour, as well as a support network for their peers.

We encourage as many pupils as possible to get involved with these teams each year to have a say in how your school runs and help us promote our four key values across the school!
